A recent legal ruling has changed what a real estate agent is required to do if they are going to help you find and buy real estate.

Licensed real estate agents must have you sign a buyer representation agreement before showing you a property.

You can visit an open house hosted by a real estate agent without signing a buyer representation agreement; however, the agent may not be able to provide all of the information or guidance you seek without a signed agreement.

In 2019 there were 8,153 licensed agents who represented at least one successful buyer (MLS records). 7,202 of these agents (88%) completed 5 or fewer purchases. Only 2.8% of the buyer agents sold 12 or more homes.
